Getting a head start on careers...

Australian School-Based Apprenticeships

Undertaking a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship is a great way to explore career options and gain workplace experience.

This can make it easier for young people to find future work once they leave school – whether they go onto further study or straight into the workforce.

A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship allows students to continue their schooling while they work (and get paid!) approximately 1 day a week in a workplace (or an average of 7.5 hours per week annually).

Kicking those career goals, early…

A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship can give students an early start in their working career, before they even leave school.

By the time they finish high school they will have completed a portion of their apprenticeship or traineeship and may have the option to continue full time. Their resume will look good too, with work experience and references that employers like to see.

There are more than 600 qualifications to choose from for a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. From trade qualifications like auto-mechanics, construction, plumbing or hairdressing to qualifications in retail, working with animals, business or many more.

The Apprenticeship Community can help you navigate the many options available.

We work with schools, employers, students and parents to ensure we’re all on the same page when signing up for an apprenticeship or traineeship – so students get the best head start they can.
